Plano ISD Legislative Update 

As the 88th Texas Legislative Session continues, Plano ISD is providing an update on the district’s legislative advocacy efforts. School Board Trustees, Superintendent Williams and district leaders have been closely monitoring bills that impact our students and schools, and continue to advocate on behalf of Plano ISD and public education. As always, we remain committed to ensuring that every child in our district has access to a high-quality education that prepares them for success in life.

One issue that we are closely following this session is the proposed use of public funds for private education through taxpayer savings accounts, education savings accounts, tax credit scholarships, vouchers, etc. We strongly believe that public education funding should remain dedicated to our public schools, which serve all students. Private or home schools that accept vouchers are not held to the same accountability standards as public schools.

Another priority topic is the Texas Education Agency’s proposed changes to the A-F accountability system. The TEA proposes to raise the cut score necessary for a district to receive an “A” in the CCMR domain from 60 points to 88 points, a nearly 47% increase in one year. This is a significant change and will have drastic impacts to overall school and district ratings across Texas. 

Plano ISD has shared position letters on these topics with state leaders and will continue to advocate on these issues. One such advocacy effort as it relates to the accountability system is reminding our community and those who represent us that our students, staff and schools are #MoreThanAScore.
