The Harrington PTA Bylaws Committee have proposed changes to our bylaws and standing rules that will be covered in a special general session meeting on Tuesday, April 29th.
Summary of Proposed Changes
Bylaws:
- National dues are increasing by $1. The proposed change would be to increase membership dues to reflect the increase. Article VII, Section 2, B. Dues
The new membership cost will be $11 (individual) $18 (two members), $9 (faculty). The Harrington PTA, in good faith, will continue to absorb last year’s state dues $.50 increase for next school year. In addition, we need to make a correction to the by-laws to show the appropriate local dues amounts (not reflecting accurately) in which it will show decreased amounts for the local dues.
- Change quorum from 15 members to 10 members - Article VIII Section 6
We would like to be better aligned with several other local PTAs whose quorum is 10 and the minimum allowed by Texas PTA for quorum is 10.
- Allow up to four Faculty/Staff positions that are appointed by the Principal. Currently there is one position. Article X, Section 1, D. AND Standing Rules - Rule 14B components d. and e.
Standing Rules:
- Rule 8 - Changes to the budget that are $50 or less only require executive board approval. Changes to the budget that are greater than $50 require executive board approval and membership approval.
This will allow for efficiency while still maintaining proper oversight.
- Rule 13 - Add Field Day Coordinator and Spirit Night Coordinator
These two positions are not currently included in our standing rules
- Rule 12 - Add a Special Projects Standing Committee Chair.
This resurrected position will be used for any special projects in the coming school years. For example, next year the committee chair could form a transitions committee to focus on bringing the parents and students of Harrington and Davis together. The committee chair will work alongside the president as needed. It will have the flexibility to be an as needed special projects position.
