Harrington PTA Rent the Rock Information
For your $20 donation to Harrington PTA, you can rent the space on the rock for a week and paint a special birthday message for your student. You can also celebrate your student's sport team or give a shoutout to a favorite teacher or staff member! The rock is located on the southeast corner of Baffin Bay and Country Place, on the grass, near the Harrington Elementary marquee.
Guidelines:
- Renters are responsible for providing their own supplies and for painting the rock themselves.
- Weeks run Saturday-Friday. Weeks are available on a first-come, first-served basis and will be given to the first person who pays for the week. Book your rental HERE. Once your week has started, you are responsible for painting the rock with your message anytime during that week, rain or shine. If you do not paint the rock during your rental time, you forfeit your rental.
- Please only include only positive, appropriate messaging to celebrate something or someone at Harrington.
- If the rock is defaced with anything inappropriate during your week, Harrington PTA will need to repaint the rock to cover it. If this happens, you are welcome to repaint a message anytime during your week.
- Please cover the grass before you paint and clean up any spills.
Some things to keep in mind:
- If the design you’re painting over is dark and you’re using light colors, you may need more than one coat.
- Take into consideration the time it takes for the paint layers to dry.
- We would recommend using a flat paint, as gloss may be hard to see with the glare from the sun.
- You can use spray paint or buckets of paint. The 8-oz. sample sizes from the hardware store work great, if you need multiple colors. One 8-oz. container usually almost exactly covers the top surface of the rock. If you’re using a lighter color, you may need more paint.
- Regular paint brushes work well for some parts, but sponge brushes work better for getting in the crevices and for details.
- Some renters have used Sharpie paint pens for details and to outline.
- Some renters have used stencils for pictures and lettering.
- Supplies you might want to bring with you include paint, various paint brushes, paper towels, zipper bags to put used brushes in, something to cover the grass, and wipes for your hands.
